Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri on Monday announced the increase of the Senate regular employees’ inflationary adjustment from PHP12,000 to PHP50,000 this August.

The funds, according to Zubiri, will come from the Senate savings, adding they will also increase the medical assistance from PHP30,000 to PHP50,000, which they will receive in September.

“Ginamit po namin ang savings, kapag nagkaka-savings kami sa Senado dinaragdagan namin ang incentives para sa mga empleyado namin (We’ll use our savings, in the Senate we tend to give more incentives to employees if we have enough savings),” he said during Monday’s flag raising ceremony.

He said the inflationary adjustment assistance will help with the daily expenses of some 3,000 Senate rank-and-file employees as he also urged them to spend less so they can receive more.

“Ang pakiusap ko nga kanina na sana (I urged them a while ago) [that] we spend less on paper, we spend less on overtime para maibalik din sa mga empleyado itong savings na natatanggap namin in terms of incentives and bonuses para [sa] ganun ay napakaganda ng trabaho ng ating empleyado at nakikita n’yo naman highly motivated sila (so that the savings we receive in terms of incentives and bonuses can also be returned to the employees so that our employees will be highly motivated),” Zubiri said.

Meanwhile, the Senate President said he supports proposals to increase the minimum wage, especially for the private sector, explaining that the living wage today is higher than the minimum wage.

He urged the private sector to raise the minimum wage of their employees to help them cope up with the rising inflation. (PNA)
