The color pink became the Presidential aspirant and current Vice President Leni Robredo’s new color for the 2022 elections when she wore a blue blouse with a pink ribbon on the day she announced her presidential bid on October 7, 2021.

Robredo advocates had shown their support for the vice president by wearing pink-colored shirts or anything pink-related and posted it on their social media accounts. Many celebrities participated in this campaign which was admired and gained public attention.

VP Leni Robredo is an official of the Liberal Party that represents the color yellow but she decided to run as an independent to show inclusivity, thus the color pink which she said symbolizes hope, love, the future, and the way of life.

On her official Twitter account, the vice president issued a challenge to her supporters called “Kakampink Wednesdays”, which is a weekly initiative that is meant to raise awareness and remind the people about her presidential candidacy. Her campaign manager, former Senator Bam Aquino, coined the term Kakampink to entice the supporters of the vice president.

This is to remind her supporters that they should mirror the true meaning of the color while wearing it. They should do good things, extend help to others, especially people who lost their loved ones and jobs because of the pandemic. She also urged her supporters to be calm in spreading their message.

The hashtag #KakampinkWednesdays, recently trended on Twitter where various Robredo supporters again wore pinkish clothes and accessories posted on their Twitter accounts. Some other supporters organized various activities such as feeding programs, clean-up drives, and free haircuts. Aside from feeding programs, her supporters have also been organizing pink caravans and motorcades across the country.

VP Robredo expressed that she wants her campaign to be a “people’s campaign,” which will be driven by volunteerism. She said she doesn’t have the resources and equipment like other candidates, but she is encouraged by her supporters’ dedication to what she calls “the fight of their lives”.

“Mahaba pa ang lalakbayin natin. Kaya may panawagan ako sa inyo: Ipakita na ang pink, hindi lang basta kulay; uri siya ng pamumuhay. Hindi lang siya damit o ribbon; kulay siya ng pagkatao na bukas, nakikinig, nagmamahal…Rosas ang kulay ng bukas, at pag-ibig ang magdadala sa atin doon”, the presidential aspirant said.
