Former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque has joined the senatorial slate of presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos and his running mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio ‘Uniteam’ in the 2022 elections.

Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) released a statement that indicated that Roque had sent the party a letter, accepting the offer to be its guest candidate for senator on Thursday, November 25.

According to PFP, the move was not unexpected, as more political figures are expected to join the Marcos-Duterte “Uniteam” alliance in the coming days.

The Bongbong-Sara Uniteam, a coalition of the PFP, Lakas–Christian Muslim      Democrats (Lakas-CMD), Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP), and Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), is fielding a Marcos-Sara Duterte tandem that is currently leading by a wide margin in the most recent presidential and vice presidential polls conducted nationwide.

Following Roque’s retirement as a presidential spokesperson, he joined People’s Reform Party (PRP), which was founded by late Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago. In 2016, she ran for president alongside Marcos, who is now the PFP’s standard bearer.

He then declared his candidacy for senator shortly after being denied a seat on the International Law Commission (ILC), a United Nations body tasked with developing and codifying international law.

In the 17th Congress, Roque also represented the Kabayan Party-list. He ran for senator for the first time in the 2019 senatorial elections, but withdrew his candidacy due to health concerns.

He served as Malacañang’s spokesperson from 2017 to 2018, and was reappointed in April 2020 until his resignation earlier this month, when he officially filed his certificate of candidacy as a substitute candidate.
